April Meeting Notes
from April 3, 2012 at In The Works
1. Rice and Beans Distribution: Rice and beans at In The Works, were distributed at end of meeting. In The Works will pick up rice and beans from Rainbow in the future. Also, ITW usually has extra potatos and rice that can be shared with other cookhouses.
2. Days that need help:
Saturday — could use help especially with cleanup around 6 pm
Wednesday — could use one or two more for serving, also could use help with food pickups
Sunday — needs new pickup person/ dumpsterer on Sunday, and moany one person to help cook if reliable
Monday ITW: possibly more food source people, and one or two more regular volunteers for food prep and cleanup. Normally starts prep at 2-3 pm and serves at 7.
There will be a new volunteer meeting Monday April 9, 7 pm at In The Works.
3. $50 was raised for SF FNB at the Anarchist Book Fair.
4. There is interest in starting a new serving at UN Plaza on the weekend — the person has equiptment but might want help with spices etc, can start in 2-3 weeks.
5. Fundraising for cups etc? Dana mentioned that Alex can often get free cups to share. Also sporks are only $6 for 1,000 at Cash adn Carry. Donation button on website? Paypal or other? Chela will do research, Ellen has bank account info, we can discuss next meeting.
6. Voicemail? No one person is consistantly checking. It can be accessed through the volunteer email (Google Voice). Julia proposed a new message — the current one sounds like a robot and is hard to understand.
7. Meeting schedule: Chela suggested two meetings per month on different days to accomodate different schedules. There was disagreement: the meetings might end up more fragmented. Suggestion to have meetings regularly on the first Tuesday of each month. It is important to post meetings on website before they happen.

food: bread, pizza, cake, pie, beer, wine, fruit, vegetables and other goodies!
In attendance: ellen, irish, cynthia, donald, ted, caitlin, christian, dana, arriana, maggie, hayden. we currently have 5 servings!
Announcements: dana- fnb signs progressing. cynthia- looking for a live-in home care situation.
Stickers: come up with, field designs and send to the list. bring in saturday people. we’ll talk about this again!
Anthropology students working on alternatives to capitalism project: questions about filming and their timeframe — not possible inside s40. servings are public places . they are looking for a living situation. irish is asking for further details. proposal: irish will be point of contact. OK.
Tabling: irish – we should do more tabling, especially local stuff and network with other local groups to support those causes. People want to do tabling at hardly strictly bluegrass this weekend (noon, Saturday)!
Get away recap: Mountain getaway was mostly FNB people! lots of exciting and fun and “interesting” experiences.
Where’s the art / punk show dude: Ellen is going to contact him again. If we can’t reach him we will pursue alternatives. For future events a FNB person should be in attendance!
BIRTHDAY INTERMISSION! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAITLIN
Don (Calling In): Hi Don! He’s awesome! He’s doing some car pickups for us and we really appreciate it. Going to work out some further drop-offs. Hope to see him at the next meeting.
In The Works: New Collective Space in SF at 17th and Capp. Still building out their space! Wants to start a new serving in the next month or so, starting small, will open up the kitchen later. The idea of a breakfast on Tuesday? Proposal: ~$150 funds from the general fund to start this new serving. OK
FNB in Haight and Church Groups: Church groups and FNB share a serving line, time and space on Saturday. This group serves meat and dairy, has a bullhorn, it creates some confusion and some are people uncomfortable. We will bring this up next month when people from Saturday are present and try to broker a solution.
Free Eats Chart: updates in progress. Irish is working on it!
Screen Printing: Is happening soon, in October. Details TBA talk to Arriana about it!
Noisebridge: Thoughts about approaching Noisebridge for a FNB serving. We don’t currently have a person who wants to do this, but if we did would want someone who was a super reliable bottom-liner: no rotting food, no dirty dishes, no BS, no drama. Right now focusing on developing In The Works.

+ Harvest Hills is offering is an incredible opportunity for produce / bread pickups every week day at 10 AM. Thursday and Saturday (Sunday? Others?) may take advantage of this.
+ New collective forming at 17th and mission. They are in serious need of cooking supplies and an electric stove. Want to host their own day. They’re going to come back to the group with a proposal for startup needs after they get their space built out.
+ Ellen needs help picking up foodt! (possibly coordinated after the meeting).
+ Erik, who held an art show fundraiser for us, is coming back and will start looking for things on our wish list (https://sffnb.org/2011/05/07/may-meeting/)
+ Alex wants more people involved with Monday, is looking for a kitchen that would offer long-term stability.

The City of Orlando, the home of Disney World in Florida, is being sued in court today over a city law that has effectively made it illegal for any group to feed more than 25 people at a time in downtown parks without a permit. It also limits groups to no more than two permits per park, per year. The group Food Not Bombs has refused to obey the new law—saying food is a right, not a privilege—and has continued to serve free meals to the poor and homeless. However, over the past month more than 20 members of the organization have been arrested. Read more at Democracy Now

Join SF FNB for our annual tradition — the Chez Gay Cafe and Potluck at the Transmarch! We’ve been doing this for 4 years now and are super excited for it to be this time of year again! San Francisco Food Not Bomb will provide some food, be cooking veggies at the park, but PLEASE bring veg food to share.
All are welcome to share food and eat.
(As always?) bonus points awarded for:
– for bringing food to share or chopped food to grill.
– remembering your own utensil / plate
– dressing in costume, double points if it’s french
– wearing your “vintage” chez gay tuxedo t-shirt (if you want one I think we still have the screen can make some the morning of)

Mike and Julia want to start a serving in the Haight at Stanyan on Saturdays. Need food sources, pots, cutting boards, knives. Starting June 25th cooking at 1:30pm and serving at 6pm. Evan can provide dumpster maps as food source.
Dana knows Ray who has a burning man workshop where we can make sheet metal FNB signs with LED lights!
At Trans March June 24th 3-6pm FNB serving “Le Chez Gay” small crew needed to help serving and people can bring food pot luck style.
Offer for kitchen in Bayview. One volunteer available and food sources as well.
James from Wednesday wants to start a serving in the Castro.
12 arrests in Orlando. People’s homes are getting raided and people are getting harassed. Support needed! Direct actions wanted for solidarity. There’s a call for people who are willing to get arrested to go and help Orlando FNB. This Thursday the 16th there’s going to be a five course meal, film screening, and donations made for Orlando at Station 40.
There’s going to be a direct action against the drug war. City hall 12pm Friday 17th.
Canadian television World’s Weirdest Restaurant wants FNB to do a spot about freeganism. Evan wants to investigate and report back.
